If it's broken, it's not fixed.

Oh dear, this might be fate giving me a sign. I really don't want to part with my gen 1 but after riding the MT10 I'm seriously thinking about it.

The trouble is over the last 4 1/2 to 5 years I have fitted it with all the quality upgrades....Over a grands worth if I was to take them off and sell them separately

Full Monty'd by Mike
Ohlins rear shock with remote preload
Gillies rear sets
Custom comfort seat
Datatool heated grips
Full Givi luggage (not currently fitted)
Solid black DB,  Rifle touring and various other screens
Brand new genuine Yamaha colour coded belly pan
Plus lots more I may of missed

No written service history but religiously serviced and maintained by me with valve clearances checked by an old school friend mechanic.

You see, my problem is the mileage may be seen as high by some at 58K and some will expect to bid me down on the strength of this and expect the uprades for nothing.

This isn't going to happen and I would rather keep it.

There is also that haunting memory of all the bikes I've sold in the past that are now worth a mint and I can see the Gen 1 in a decades time fitting into this category.
Why post this you may ask ...... Well I'm in the process of working out the best way for me to own an MT10 and you've got to have options...right ?

Another Foccer has expressed an interest in it and I really am in two minds as to what to do ....I should have never took that test ride

Obviously I don't want to mess anyone about but what Im getting at is that mine may be up for sale soon I don't know yet, I've got some serious thinking to do.

Don't know, the blue looks quite nice, the black one looks mean and the grey with yellow wheels one is growing on me but none of them jump out at me and say BUY ME. This might sound extreme but I'm seriously thinking of paying a grand on top for Dream Machine to do me a Kenny Roberts replica similar to the R1's 60th anniversary paint scheme.
Like I say......Got a lot of thinking to do

Mr dazza......do you have all the standard parts still ?   You know the best way to get the most money out of the gen one with that parhaps slightly higher than average  mileage is to sell it standard and easily offload the goodies on here.....mines on something like 45000 I dont consider that to be high.12 years old so an average of about  3750 per year....just been used.
One, is never going to be enough.....

Yes, still got all the standard parts bar the shock but can source one of them very cheaply if needed and if I were to PX it, that would be the road I took ...However, let's not take it away from the gen 1, it's a fantastic do-it-all bike but by all accounts, it appears the MT10 is going to be also with the touring add-ons. I've always said I can't see the point in having two bikes that do similar things as the danger is you would favour one and the other would get neglected. I've become emotionally attached to my gen 1 and in the position where it's worth more to me than it's monetary value.
At 13 years old mine only averages out at 4460 miles a year so like yours, not what you would consider higher than average miles, it's been used.
I don't NEED to sell it, just don't want it to sit there unused and forgotten and given the two sitting side by side together, what would you choose to jump on. ?

The only way to describe that MT10 test ride Mel, was that it felt like a supermoto on steroids only it wasn't vibey and didn't run out of puff on the straights.
How many bikes have you ridden that can  power wheelie in 3rd and take you through the ton on the back wheel ?  Totally irresponsible I know and extremely knobbish but that kinda suits me.  :lol

Yes, think I'm with you on that Mel. Black one with the red is favourite so far. PCP finance deals makes these so affordable but in my mind you never own it and have to pay a lump of money at the end as well as a hefty deposit so it's like you're renting it. You can get penalised for condition and mileage if you want to back it at the end and not pay the lump sum which will probably be just about what it's worth.
I would rather pay more a month and actually own it at the end of the agreement

Or wait a year and buy a low mileage minter that someone has traded in  for the latest must have bike.

Don't think I could wait a year and the ex demos don't work out that much cheaper either but it may be worth asking.
You're right of course, we're not here long and we only get one shot,  so if you've got all your other shit together, why not.
