Right now thats over with.


I have made a complaint to the AA about a repair to my vehicle by Halfords Autocentre, AA approved, they took it there.
Just had the reply which says they arewashing there hands of it even going to the extent of blaming my wife and saying she choose to take it there.
So does anyone have any experience with the Financial Ombudsman as that is the next level?

Not aware of whole situation etc, but a letter to watchdog  or the likes might also be beneficial :)

According to the AA rules and regs thats who you take it too after you have one through there complaints procedure.
Although its a car repair you are paying for a service that you may never need i guess.

I already mentioned Watchdog but we have a paper up here called The Sunday Mail that has a feature called "THE JUDGE"
A few years back I'd bought a car and it wasn't fit for purpose and garage was refusing to refund my money,  letter to the judge and within 7 days had my money back and the garage had their foccin car back :thumbup

The pad retaining clip wasn't fixed back properly so rubbed 2/3mm off of the inside of the spokes and the calliper sliding bolts were finger tight and corroded. Ford callipers slide on the fixing bolt. This was done by Halfords which is where the AA patrolman recommended to take the car, nearest approved garage.

Nope. I pay the AA they took it there. Thats between them and halfords.

Whether your wife "chose" to have the car taken to Halfords or not does not matter. If you have any work done by a garage it must be of a certain standard or you have the right to complain and the garage is legally bound to investigate. If they do not or refuse you would have to take legal proceedings, usually via small claims.
Most major garage chains will settle out of court as their legal excess is often more than the claim would be. Appreciate your issue here is with The AA but they did not do the actual work.
You should have some paperwork from the AA detailing what the fault was and what was done to rectify it. If the work is substandard then it would think be down to Halfords to rectify rather than the AA....this will however depend on who the "contract" is with which will be in your AA T&C's/small print.

HMMM thats what the AA are saying. Does this mean i am fighting the wrong person. I still feel that i pay the AA to keep me on the road though.

Who did you pay to do the repairs?  If you paid the AA as part of their service then your contract and complaint is with them.  Depending on the level of cover you took, I suspect the AA may only liable for the recovery/transportation of the car to a repairer.  If you then pay the repairers bill, then you complain to Halfords. 

Whether it was AA recommended/approved isn't relevant as you the customer would have the right of choice.
