Wing mirror troubles
« on: 30 April 2016, 03:31:55 pm »
I normally leave my bike parked up with a cover over it, but I fold the wing mirrors in to make it easier to get the cover on and off. Well today when I went to unfold the wing mirror the pivot pin only went and snapped and the bugger came off in my hand.

Can I just fire a bolt and nut through where it pivots as a repair? Even if that means I will lost the ability to pivot this one?

Oh aye, I'm taking about OEM wing mirrors by the way, if that wasn't already apparent :)

Scratch that. Took the unit off the bike. Had to drill out one half of the unit (the base side not the mirror side) to get an M6 bolt through but it's back together and working fine again (a bit tighter now right enough!). So I guess the answer to my original question is yes you can just fit a nut and bolt and have it still work fine, providing you still have the curved spaces and haven't lost them :)

Foc Mick you didn't give me much time to reply with a witty but helpful comment :lol
Glad you got it sorted as I know it's a pain to twist your head round a wee bit to see what's there :rolleyes

Handy to know about the fix. My mirrors fold back when I reach a certain speed. Most annoying.
