K and N oil filters
« on: 17 April 2016, 06:53:44 am »
A heads up , but I have read on a couple of forums now, especially one to do with track riding about leaking K and N oil filters,
Supposedly manufacturing has been moved to China, as is everythingnowadays,,
So there seems to be a chance that they can leak a lot, all over your hot exhaust manifold and the bike bursts into flames, I have read that some tracks have banned the use of this manufacturers oil filters.

Could just be a bad batch, or i wouldn't be surprised if people damaged them by over tightening by using the attached nut and a wrench.
I used to use them all the time until i was trying to remove the last one and the nut had had so much plastic covering it i couldn't find any socket to fit it without chewing it up. I dug out the trusty old chain wrench in the end.
I've only ever put my filters on finger tight with a smear of oil on the rubber seal and never had a leak yet.

Could also be knock off ones. I've heard of fake spark plugs being sold on the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if there was fake filters too

Any issues I have heard of with K&N oil filters were with on cars, where I have seen fellows over tighten them and damage them causing leaks. I can only remember ever hearing of 2 leaking on bikes but both were user faults rather then the filter.

I never use them as I prefer OEM or HiFlo and use the filter cap sockets. Might be fakes as His Dudeness suggests

I always use Hi-Flo oil filters as they are made in exactly the same factory as the K&N ones anyway, I fact when you are ordering a HiFlo filter if you ask for the RACING or PREMIUM filter you will get an Hi-Flo oil filter with a nut on the end .... Exactly the same as the K&N ones and there aint that much difference in price between those and the standard ones

:agree using HiFlo only with cap socket.
