Question for the mod's and anyone else.
« on: 08 February 2016, 01:51:36 pm »
Another site that I frequent for Honda C90's have a rule on their for sale section stating that you can't put anything up for sale without putting a price up with it, Just wondered what others thought of this?

On other forums that I'm on they have a few rules:
-For sale items must include a price
-Postage costs or collection details should be stated
-Should state if also advertised elsewhere  (ebay etc)
-All negotiations to be kept on the thread and only go to PM to exchange addresses etc
-No gazumping once price agreed. First to offer asking price gets it, otherwise if price is negotiated then is final once accepted unless buyer backs out.

I'm not saying it should be exactly like that here but it keeps things clear and above board and is quite common on other forums. Depends on the mods/admin how hands-on they want to be I suppose.

On a general note I also always look to see where someone is located. If they're a short ride away I'll be more likely to buy as it means no waiting for the postie.

And if you're going to put up a For Sale or Wanted post, say what the foc it is that you are selling or want! We know it's For Sale or Wanted, it's in the foccing For Sale or Wanted area...

Good idea. Although how exactly you suggest the mods can enforce that? Flogging the offenders  :)

And anyway if somebody does not put a price the item may not sell. My educated guess is most likely it will not sell. Unless keen buyer uses PM magic  :lol

If someone else is interested they may ask for the price as well.

I know what your saying, on some of the other forums I use they have a more structured sales approach in the for sale areas. Putting rules like that in place just gives the mods more work to police it, and might put some people off from wanting to advertise sales stuff if they need to adhere to xx or yy rules.

I'm sort of with Val on the if it ain't broke don't fix it method.

Odds are anyone who wants to implement rules like that will already post sales add with a picture, location, and price etc.

Shouldn't be hard, introduce the rule and if people post something for sale without a price the post gets deleted.

If people won't do it, the Mods could always edit the post title, although why should they have to do the work just because of some lazy or inconsiderate sod?
