Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost
« on: 17 January 2016, 08:29:15 pm »
Anyone have any experience with either the 100 horse power or the 125 horse power?
Needing new car and want to know if the 100hp is enough or if the 125hp really has that much more oomph.

Nor driven either but step dad is a Ford dealer. He said the 125 is a lot better but the 100 is OK.

The Mrs has one and loves it, I think it's a pile of shite.

Good engine with plenty of grunt but wont do 30 in 4th as it starts to labour, which is one of the things that pee me off, will hold 80 on the motorway no prob, averages 42 mpg for day to day driving but will easy do 50 mpg on the motorway.
Paintwork is poor, overall build quality in my opinion is also poor. we have it on PCP so will be getting shut in September although I'm on the lookout now for good deals and will probably get shut well before September comes around.
A good ish car if you can get it cheap enough and on lease or PCP but not a car I'd actually like to own.

Have a look at the 1.5TDCi instead of the 1.0L petrol.

IT has bags more torque and that's what's best IMHO

Don't utilise a diesel engine in the right way i.e. we do less than 15,000 miles a year and loads of short journeys where the engine won't warm up which kills modern day diesels.

Is your heart set on a Focus 1.0?  Seat Leon 1.2TSi much better, Fabia etc. Same/better economy with more torque. Just my 2p.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

I'm running a 1.5dci Renault Captur around town get 50/55mpg (ECO MODE) on a run I do every 6 weeks Costa Blanca to Bordeaux at 120/130kms per hour cruise control I achieve 80/83 mpg again ECO MODE. I never take it out of eco mode.
If I had wanted a performance car I would have bought one.

I would never buy a car with the ECO boost 3 cylinder engine 1 ltr To get it to go anywhere you have to rev the bollocks out of it, top end revs all the time so more wear and tear.
Don't give a  foc about the emissions test it will likely fail as all marques are flogging figures.

I reckon my engine will out live the car though as the build quality on Renaults leave a lot to be desired , my car is just coming up to a year old, starting to rattle already but mechanically never let me down ( now that is a kiss of death)
MT-09 Tracer for those who no longer can handle a BIG boy Fazer

For the money that we have we get a much newer car, plus they are more common and therefore more choice.
