Stupid nhs!!!
« on: 24 February 2012, 12:40:10 am »
Got a phone call today from my pacemaker clinic, can i come up urgently for my well over due service and check up. Apparently some member of staff forgot to book me in and even forgot my reminder letter. I'm so bloody annoyed, part of the terms of my supervised provional licence are i must keep up with my clinic appointments. :eek :eek

I had to go and see a consultant a few years ago.
The thing that amused me was the letter I got from the Hospital telling me that,

" I had been placed on a list, so that when a place became available on the waiting list I would be placed on it"  :rollin

T Blair eventually put a stop to that sort of thing BUT it has re-emerged as treatment rationing - you only put people who are actually sick on the waiting list.
My missus (at risk of developing glaucoma and supposed to get 6 monthly checkups) routinely has her check-up appointments cancelled and then they simply fail to make her another one.

B*stards! ... The medical profession has only had 3000 years to figure out how to get patients through their waiting rooms and they are still learning.

Plenty of complaining here, but let's not forget that there are quite a lot of us on this site who are walking about and still riding our bikes thanks to the good work of the NHS. In spite of all the government (past and present) meddling there are still plenty of good people doing their best within the NHS.
 Long may it continue.  :thumbup

That is very true indeed. I've been looked after very well by the NHS over the years. Yes there has been the odd frustration but, in the main, they have done a tremendous job.

It's taken the nhs 5 years to sort out my rare heart problem, my wonderful gp had to call in a huge favour to get me seen as a ultra emergency. I was so ill i collapsed and nearly died at 30 years old. So far it's 5 heart ops and counting, i've got a £22k pacemaker fitted and it's being replaced next year. So far i've surpassed my consultants expectations and he's over the moon and refers to me as a walking medical miracle!!. Am so greatful to be finaly doing my life long dream and to be riding a motorbike be it a 125 but i will in time be ditching the l-plates and get my fazer :D :D :D

tourx,  I wouldn't worry about it too much. My Mrs was diagnosed with epilepsy 15 years ago. It was only after an episode last year where they put her on a proper heart monitor that they correctly diagnosed it as a rare heart condition ( torsades des pointes) which resulted in her heart doing 365bpm :eek

Two years ago I was airlifted to Coventry hospital intensive care unit whilst on deaths door, the fantastic doctors and nurses without a doubt saved my life for which I will be forever greatfull. Dispite it's faults i.m.h.o our NHS is still the best when we need it and should never be taken for granted.
When the going get's tough the tough get going.

I can`t fault the treatment I`ve had from the NHS. Three scans on my heart to find out exactly what my problem was, Cardiologist explained what they were doing and why, also have to have an Endoscopy every two years . Luckily everything controlled by drugs.  :thumbup

I would be very dead if not for the fantastic nhs team that look after me.
The way some processes are done is frankly baffling and dealing with generalists in the system is really frustrating but the medical care side is brilliant
Its just a ride
