Well she has gone
« on: 07 October 2015, 09:02:50 pm »
Well sorry to say have sold my FZ1 today. Will really miss it, a fantastic bike and have really enjoyed her. Only the old creaking bones have left me no choice. I have been looking around for a likely replacement and something a lot lighter and more comfortable upright position.
Looks like I am still sticking with Yamaha so looking for deals on a new MT-07, wish me luck.

Cheers Slappy, will do, if the budget could run to the MT-09 !!!!!!, but I have sat on the 07 and just feels a good option, and sooo light.

Best of luck to you with the little MT Lew......keen to hear how you get on with it.......i made the move to my little twin against the judgement of many here who said that it wouldnt be enough power......in a sense they were right but only a small percentage of the time....most of the the time it is enough power and only lacks once doing illegal speeds.......I certainly feel allot safer on it.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Looking forward to read how you get on with the MT07 , I'm considering it as an alternative to the Gen 1.

I can vouch for the fact that the MT-07 is a lot of fun & comfortable for my aged bones (now in my 68th year although the heads only about 16! :lol )

MT-07's are great, I get to test ride them often at the main dealer I work in. That and the Tracer have been my favourites so far.

Fitting the genuine top box rack isn't fun to the 07, you have to reem out holes in the panels.

Well after much thought MT-07 was put to bed. I bought this one instead. 2013 MT-09 875kms on the clock since new. They are not a thing of beauty but thankfully super light and is easier on the old knees.
Wish me luck.

Nice one Lew, what made you decide against the MT-07?

To be honest it was always in the back of my mind that dropping from a thou 4 to a 700 twin power? was a worry. Shall we say I am a rather rotund chap 120 kgs on a good day.
The MT-07 really ticked 99% of my boxes. The MT-09 being a nearly two year old bike price had a lot to do with it. It was just a few €€ more.   It  had only just had it's first service 875 kms and it was handed back under a HP agreement?
Time will tell it like the MT-07 is super light compared to my old FZ1 Gen 2

Hi Finally I got my MT-09 this morning. I bought the bike from a non franchised dealer two weeks ago. She is a 2013 model but only had 875 kms on the clock. I asked him if there were any outstanding recalls that had not been done. They sent the chassis number to Yamaha Spain and turned out there were two. Fuel mapping and ABS sensors. Things move slowly here in Spain but at last it has all been updated.
I had a run home from Alicante to Moraira were I live. I will say this she is a nippy wee bastard. Oh yes I think I am going to enjoy this one. I have come from the FZ1 lovely bike but just to heavy for me now.
I'm 66 and knackered but still love me biking, lets hope this can keep me out and about for a few more years, well impressed .
Weather forecast over the weekend is torrential rain forecast for the weekend, not to worry. I have a few bits and pieces I am adding, Rad Guard, crash bobbins, fender extender , hugger extender and a Puig fly screen just for starters. I am thinking about getting the Tutoro chain oiler.
 Cheers Lew

Glad your enjoying your new bike , in less than 2 years I will hit 60, going to keep the FZ1 until then hopefully and then look at something smaller and lighter,  MT07 / MT09 are pretty high on my list.

Nice one Lew. I know the Moraira area reasonably well and am jealous as hell I cant ride round there.
120kgs?? you fat bastard :lol , you'll need to fully stiffen front and rear suspension or you'll bounce round the roads!

I see why it was cheap, its the slowest colour  :b

Weekends its Louise

Ah shit- I have been rumbled lol.

Went for a run this morning , not to far as the weather looked threatening, not that I am adverse to a drop of rain but when it rains here in October(Spain) it does not mess about.
I can honestly say I have never had as much fun on a bike for quite sometime. Don't get me wrong I loved my FZ but it was a struggle for me to move around especially on these tight mountain roads I ride. The 09 is just so much lighter for me and I was not having to fight with it. Well saying that next job on the list is to sort out the suspension. There is one corner I love a fast right hander but as you exit it there is hump at the top. As I came over the top of it the bike turned into a bouncy castle, front end is prone to diving on the brakes nearly bottoming out so will be tweaking that. All in all good morning, Even though the ECU has had a Yam upgrade the throttle is still snatchy. I tried all 3 power modes and it is certainly more user friendly in ''B'' mode, ''A'' mode is very aggressive ''Std '' mode is in between the two. As the roads were wet I settled for ''B''mode for most of the ride. The seat is a brick so can feel an upgrade for the seat, maybe an AirHawk?. Have just re-ordered the Hugger extender again as it was missing when I got back, next one will be bolted on.
Anyone any experience with Dunlop Sportsmax tyres, these are stock tyres on the MT-09, never had Dunlops for a 100 years, seemed okay but not a lot of feedback, maybe I was not trying hard enough, still all in all I think this one will keep me happy and biking for a few years to come. Lew
