Fz6 tyre time help!!
« on: 25 September 2015, 09:10:32 pm »
Hey all,
My 07 bike currently has matching Bridgestone bt021 which I had brand new mileage wise I'm very happy I've Nearly 7k out of the rear, fronts just starting to slope roundabout wear from a lot of town riding, I have however never had complete confidence in the front! Despite current wear It has always felt light and like it has a bit of a drop off when leaning over a bit on a faced over ride. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it my tyres or my bike, it's 26k now bearing or suspension issues. Completely standard bike! Worth mentioning it's not the 07- bike it's 04-07. Thank you!!

Get rid of the 021's and it'll transform the bike because when they wear, they're absolutely shite!

The vast majority of modern S/T rubber will do the job, and everyone has an opinion of what's the best.

Have a look for bargain pairs on eBay, you generally get last years technology for £50-£70 less, and they're still probably well beyond most people's capabilities.
Happy hunting!
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

I have maxxis supermax diamonds on mine, I get about 4,500 miles out of a rear, will be putting the 6th rear on soon, I find them better than the 020's that the bike came with and I replaced with 3 more rears, I put a new front on to 2 rears, you can't beat a new set of tyres, my bike has 44,500 miles on it, I changed the oil in the front forks last year and the brake fluid, greased the swingarm, hope to do the head bearings soon, but still handles like new.

Thank you so your saying maxxis would be your tyre of choice? I'm thinking a fork over haul wouldn't be a bad idea funny you should mention it, do you recommend a rear suspension over hall or is this not normally required or doable

The only thing I did on the rear suspension was grease the bearings I think there is also one in the shock. One point you can't get the swingarm out unless you remove the exhaust as it passes through it but you can just move the swingarm to get a bit of grease in although it looked ok so might have lasted a few more years, I painted the lower part of the shock just to tidy it up, I dont think you can do anything to them apart then alter the spring load,I've never altered mine as when I bought it he said it was set up for solo use.

I've been a user of maxxis diamonds for the last couple of years. They're a great tyre, feel a bit odd at first, but I've never had one let go. Get slightly better mileage than other s/t tyres too.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

When you say odd how do you mean, do they stick well with a nice lean angle? I'm not a Rossi wanna be but I do like to enjoy it up on the moorland twisties :)

I have the Bridgestone 023s on my FZ6 and get good mileage out of them, around 9-10,000 on a rear and about double that on the front with a combination of motorways and twisties. I'm not one for ragging it away from the lights or anchoring it up hard, so obviously your mileage may vary :)

The 023 series have now been replaced by the T30s which, by all reports, are even better.

M&P have some offers on 'pairs' at the moment, they've got Michelin Pilot Sports for £99/pair.
Just think how stupid the "average" person is.  Isn't it a worry that statistically approximately 50% of the population are thicker!

I went for PR3's on my fzs600-fazer and they work a treat, great in the wet and even better in the dry :)
Couldn't get PR4's on the old fazer but don't know if you can for yours. Michelin run promotional stuff through dealers so maybe worth asking them, I got a £35 fuel card from them for buying a pair. Paid £195 fitted to loose wheels - £35 fuel card :) bargain.

Big fan of Michelin and got Pilot Powers on mine. Had the original Michelin Pilots on my previous FZ6 and they worked brilliant. Without wanting to cause a heated debate, there are better tyres than Maxxis that can be had for similar money  ;)
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it...

Went against the grain in the end bought two sets of standard diablos one set for the fz6 and one set for the Rsv Mille. Transformed both bikes!! New love for the fazer I'm actually confident in bends again!

I've got Bridgestone T30's on mine at the moment, they handle and wear well as far as I can tell, had them on 2 years and still plenty left though I don't do huge milage (about 5000 a year)

I've just put Michellin Pilot 4 Road on my FZ6, front and back.

Compared to the tyres I had on, these are miles ahead. Took me about 20 miles to scrub them in to the point I was confident to ride normally, so they're that good out of the box!
