London Newbie - FZS600
« on: 15 September 2015, 08:54:35 pm »
Hi all,

Recently bought a FZS600 2001 (Blue) that was advertised on here.
I've been riding 250cc scooters for the last four years, finally decided to go for a big bike. Missing the storage but loving the extra power.
Read a lots posts here before decided on the FZS600, found this place very helpful.

The bike already has a few mods: R6 shock, scorpion exhaust, heated grips, crash bars, blue screen, rear hugger.

I find the rear brake pretty poor, so thinking about upgrading to the Fazer 1000 rear caliper.

Welcome to the forum  :)

Rear brake can be upgraded. But for light use is fine. Some people (like me) hardly use rear brake.

Make sure you clean the caliper and change the pad, before start investing in mods. I personally prefer light action hence I use soft EBC organics pads.

Note hard ceramics/sinthered "race" pads and powerful calipers like FZS 1000 can eat your disc pretty fast. And changing the rear brake disc is a real PITA.

Some people has resorted to new rear wheels because of forever stuck disc bolts.

Frankly with all the mods you already have your bike just needs oil and riding  :)

Welcome to the forum!

Trust me, it's more comfortable that way anyway... Shinny side always up

Nice bike!

That must be the first time I hear of someone complaining about the rear brake being insufficient, on any bike since about 70 to 80% of braking power comes from the front, and downselecting will do the rest with the rear wheel, not leaving much for the rear brake to do!

Thanks for the welcome guys. It's my first big bike so I'm getting to grips with it all.

I've adjusted the brake pedal and I'm much happier now. It was to high before, I was struggling to apply light pressure.

I'll clean the calipers up when it stops raining!
