2nd gear fail occasionally quick shifter cure?
« on: 08 September 2015, 12:28:24 am »
When I rev the tits off 1st gear sometimes 2nd gear fails to engage it just pops in neutral. If I insist grinding noise happen. When I lower the revs it goes in finally.

Should I worry?

The problem is that is exactly when I need it for the trafic lights gran prix :'(

It is not too often. Does adding Healtech QSE quick shifter will cure that completely?

You may be on to something here. I have 14 tooth front so starting in second is not a problem. In fact today I have started in 3rd on one light  :lol

I bent a valve when hitting neutral many moons ago, since then I've always done 2 things, reversed the gear linkage (1 up 5 down) and more importantly, short shifted out of first asap.

1 up 5 down takes a little getting used to but you get a better shift up the box and down doesn't really matter as you don't bang the throttle wide open every time you select the next gear

Unfortunately reversing the linkage would take a little work on the Fazer but its not impossible
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

No, you are describing a fairly common gear selector problem.
It will not get better on it's own, it will steadily get worse and needs sorting out unfortunately.

Read and weep.  :'(

More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.

If it doesn't go into 2nd when it bounces into neutral let the clutch out and pull it back in again before trying 2nd gear again
