Clock swap

Hi All

I have a 98 box eye. Is it possible to fit the slightly later clocks (the ones with a time clock) to an earlier bike?

Has any one done it and if so what is involved?

Much appreciate any guidance.

Thanks guys, sounds like it is beyond my limited electrical experience - Velcro job sounds like the way forward for me!

Cant help exactly but if its just a clock you want - do what I have done and stick one on your dash/ top yoke/ fairing filler with velcrow

Also we need your help on the sprocket nut post as you have a 98

I've done the velcro on top yoke and looks good, plus it's a lot less hassle than rewiring etc as you'd need a plug for the back of new clock as old ones are different,  then you'd need to rewire by taking wires out old plug, finding out its matching wires in new plug, get the sequence correct and I think there's a couple of extra wires on newer plugs due to the clock and trip meters etc,  good luck fella,  but mind if your doing it, you also have to do a thread on your mod with step by step pics :)

Geez fazersharp,  that's one way of recruiting :lol
Why don't you start a thread and ask all '98 owners to put there mileage down and if they had any issues yet?

its not the mileage but its the year that is important and he has a 98 (could be 99) and my theory is that "yet " does not even come into it as 98s are not affected no matter the milage

You don't need to take the cover off, looking from the rear tyre with a torch, you'll see if there's any thread on the shaft, old nut or if there's no thread, new nut.
But that could also throw in the question of "is the nut slack?" so the best way really is to take the cover off.
But, as been said before '98's seem to be ok but like anything, you have to be clear in your own mind whether you change it or not, as it's your bike and you that's riding it :-)

Clocks with the digital time in the rev counter will not work on the early models, but the ones with the time in the speedo 2000 to 2001 will fit straight on.

Ahh, that's good to know, cheers unfazed,  I thought any of the modern ones wouldn't fit. Have these got the gold or black  surround at the revs?

I'll have a look out for cheap one, with correct mileage but not that bothered as it's only for a clock and my wee one on top yoke does a treat really.

that won't happen on mine, no pressure washer has went near any bike of mine, hand wash only for my bikes, they like the feel apparently :b
