LOFOs August 2nd ride out.
« on: 09 July 2015, 11:01:44 am »
A suggestion:

Cotswold and Salibury Plain Ride

Fancy it? I might look to alter the western leg a bit, as not sure at this stage that it's the best option, but I would try not to increase the mileage by much.

At Cheltenham could we not look at the b4632 over to the A44?
Seems a shame to be so close to 'fish hill' and not include it!

We could. I've just got back from checking most of it, and it took me 5 3/4 hours. A couple of extra stops to check the map, and a bit of rush hour traffic in that. I would think that an extension to Fish Hill would add at least 1/2 hour, maybe more, plus I didn't do the complete loop starting from Eynsham. Anyone coming from east of London might find it a bit of a trawl if we start adding too much more. I still need to adjust the western leg a bit, as the route I did around Chippenham to Devizes wasn't great.

Generally, a very nice route. Starts with a bit of dual carriageway to get to Burford, but the Charlbury bit is very tight and technical. The first half of the route swoops up and down and round on the Cotswold hills. Salisbury Plain bit is quite fast, and the A338 has a couple of nice twisty sections. I think you'll all enjoy it!

The only thing about doing Fish Hill is, I'd planned to do this loop anti-clockwise, which would mean going downhill on that bit. That means you're on the brakes for much of it, not as much fun as powering up the hill, but maybe even more difficult - need to keep your speed in check!

Well I was hoping to confirm this one for sure or not before updating the Wales thread but I think that's gonna be the case as it didn't look like there was much interest in the Wales trip Grayo and on the basis it might have just been me and you.....if you weren't able to make it....it'd just be me :'(

now I can blag a Wales trip the day before on my way up and then do an Englander trip....followed by another wales trip home 8)

not sure if slim is coming yet but im thinking I can get B&B somewhere close the night before

Are you up for it Greyo?

only a matter of time before im chucked off this thread actually.....taking up bandwidth as usual ;)

This doesn't exactly seem to be the most popular idea for a LOFOs ride ever. Is it just that people aren't available for that date?

it's because ive joined in :lol.......and hijacked the thread as usual :hijack

on a serious note thought it's only because I need more time to plan it I cant just decide on the day, im determined to do something good that weekend whether it be wales or England.

Hello Nick, there's a few things stopping me from committing atm.
First and foremost is work, unsure of shifts yet.
Then it's the two hour, 120 mile ride just to get there, all boring motorways
And lastly the most western leg of the ride takes me so close to my Dads in Hereford it would be a big temptation for me to peel off, say hello to my Dad and poke my little brother in the eyeball.
Haven't totally discounted it as yet as I know other Foccers will be doing huge mileages, just need to wait nearer the time.

Might see if my sister wouldn't mind if I (and others) camped in her garden on Saturday night, she's living in a caravan whilst shes having a house built in Chinnor just off junction 6(?) on M40. Don't worry about space she's got 3 acres of land

I like the idea of this one, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing that weekend yet. Wife is tentatively planning to take kids up to family in North Wales for most of August, I'll be in London with some plans to head up to Wales and back at weekends. There's a possibility I'll be riding back down South via Moreton-on-Marsh on this day could hook up for some of the route. But, best not bank on me joining until I can nail things down nearer the time.

I understand this; it's why I don't pick up on many of the LOFO rides in the far south east. When you have access to Wales for a similar 'ingress' mileage, it's no wonder I go that way so often, and although this would be an enjoyable day I think, it can't compete with a place like that. But it's the company and banter that make these rides worthwhile in my humble opinion.

This area can't really be considered as LOFO territory, but we've done it before, as well as the "middle earth ride", which is why I, as a south of England imposter, found the nerve to suggest it  :lol

Sometimes being the only member of the WWF (west wales foccers) is tough....last year we had a bbq & I had too much bucks fizz and then knocked myself out......nobody helped me!

anyway lets cobble something together, im wiling to B&B it up somewhere so that I have greater reach so who is up for doing what from all of this then......could Wales still be on the cards to a certain degree from the East or from the North East maybe because it sounds like a couple on this thread could be interested when we get towards the West?

But as is on your current route plan it looks like dofo going would be:-

Nick
noggy
punkstig
red ceri

maybes

Dazza
slim
deadeye
arfa

if the maybes turned to defos then that would be 8 which aint bad so longs as some of the defos don't pull out
