It was a decisive victory for the allies .
Which led to over punitive reparations, which unfortunately led to you know what....

Not according to number 9 on this list by the telly historian Dan Snow they weren't. Apparently it was Hitler who made out they were over punitive.

Also a lot of people seem to think WW1 ended in a kind of stalemate. It didn't. It was a decisive victory for the allies .

UK population estimated at 45.4 million.
UK combat dead and missing in action ww1 – 744,000
UK total military deaths from all causes – 887,858
% population killed military and civilian – approx. 2%

Imagine that.

That’s just the UK.  Yup a decisive victory – what what – well worth the effort – what what – well done boys! – what what.
I suppose at least by the 1900’s they’d stopped shipping the bodies home, grinding them up and spreading them on the fields as fertilizer.

That’s a thought eh?  Millions of men firing lumps of metal at each other, blowing each other up, cutting each other’s throats.  Millions of dead.  Men, indeed whom history shows, one Christmas put down their weapons down to play football, share cigarettes and have a drink together.  Men with more in common with each other than they ever had apart.  Why?  They were simply told to kill each other by their rich political masters – that was all.

As for freedom of speech and freedom of expression, well, the mob mentality of war still exists to this day, just ask Nemanja Matic.

Good point. Goes to show how easy it is to create populism out of perceived depravation, and scapegoat others.

Total WW1casualties 37 million. As usual the Russians took the brunt.

Well no.  Not as we know them today.  Politicians back them were strictly the ruling elite.

Pfft. They still say, "we know what's good for you", then proceed to do anything but. And they still take us into wars we don't want or agree with. I don't see much change.

Gosh that reply #2778 was tasteless and bordering on the unhinged in places VNA.

I've no more to add to this topic except to say that I shall be paying my respects to all the allied fallen this Armistice Day.

I'm with you on that one YamFaz  ref 2778. and I'll add offensive to those of as who had relatives fight and die in both world wars. So think VNA before you post such an offensive post.

We are now a democracy.  And indeed after Tony Blair took the UK into Afghanistan and then Iraq - what did we do - we re-elected him.

Changing the subject back to the thread title......

What gets my goat is the way women wrap up the cords on irons, hoovers or anything with a plug on it. Who's ever tried to straighten out the cable on an iron ??? Me...I end up rewiring the bloody things.

I am sorry if I have offended anybody.  I find war offensive.   I detest the glorification of war.

And indeed, it is hard to find a family in the UK which has not been touched by war, and mine is no exception.

I'll leave it at that.

Its better than just leaving the cord unwound on the floor with the plug sticking up ready for me to tread on. My missus thinks its my duty to coil up the hoover and iron leads. Gets my foccing goat it does.

While i'm at it,

Some other stuff -

Bottles of shampoo left in the shower tray because my family cant be arsed to put them back in the rack

Wet towels strewn around the upstairs, and for some reason on my side of the bed.

Tops left off toothpaste tubes (Old one that)

People nicking my moisturiser out of the bathroom and not putting it back (dry skin on my legs see). I do get revenge though, i just go around turning all the lights on when they are asleep until i find it.

Not hanging towels up to dry.

Foccing lego all over the floor!!!!

Strictly come foccing dancing, X Factor, and any reality TV show.

Candidates for elections. It seems that we are now expected to vote for people selected by their parties from female only/black only etc lists. How far do they go with this. LGBTG lists? Left handed lists? I think this cheats the population of the opportunity to select the best candidate.

The two main parties here have not fielded a male candidate for 25 years, and all apart from one have been absolute drips

Wedding/Birthday disco DJ's who only play records that they personally like and which no one else has heard of or can dance to.
