ok, so im 47years old and falling apart :eek :eek ... 2 focced knees and a gammy hip :rolleyes ... the knees because when your young you don't think to use knee pads :uhuh ( im  a heating engineer so on my knees most of the day some days ) the hip because of 3 offs on the right side 30 years ago,   so I can only ride for about an hour before I have to stop for a break... doesn't matter if im riding like a god :sun or just bumbling around. 8) 8) 8)

so who else suffers :rolleyes

approaching the ripe old age of 31, fractured L5 vertabrae that healed/fused incorrectly......

i can ride well and through most pain, but sometimes the pain in the hips is the one that causes me to pull over, and if i cannot then its time to ride home quckly......when you have your helmet on no one can hear you scream.....

lol

Am I the oldest one that is knackered on here 66 been unable to ride for nearly 3 weeks now. I cannot get my left foot on to the foot rest now even if I do manage it cannot change gear. I had x rays last Thursday and report back this Thursday for results. I have already been told I need a new knee but also been told to lose weight as, on my own admission I am a fat git. Hoping come Thursday she will give me a Cortizone injection. If she does that it will give me some temporay relief.
Arthritus is a bitch. Doctor has taken me off Norproxine as being on them to long can be bad for your heart. I did point out while on them I was still reasonably pain free and mobile. I would have thought being a fat bastard was just as bad for me heart?? cannot win , fecken doctors eh!!!!!

Reading all these threads doesnt half make me grateful that ,apart from my much abused lungs, I have no mobility issues but I am still only 67 :lol

Damn, you were right! That's the most pain free I've been since the off  :D

Nice one Nick, pleased for you fella. That's a few aches now sorted since the off  :D

Now, what about this cheeky fecker below

Another supplement for all yous old farts.........rose hip......really good stuff.

Walking is also one of the best gifts anyone can give themselves as a means to keeping pain free......hour a day......get a dog.

Weight training is also proven to be good for bones, joints & general wellbeing.....dont listen to all the endurance freaks who say it has no place......if more old folk went to the gym they might still be able to get themseves up & down the stairs instead of splashing out on bungalows.....much cheaper too.

& of course as frosties says......riding is the best cure for everything coz when youre grinning you're relaxed.........ok im lying.......maybe FZ1 isnt the best bike if you have any pains.......id still rather be shitting myself on a tight corner than shitting myself while sat watching bowls :lol

Now I know I'm right about a few things Noggy but all the advice you give above about keeping moving does not explain why you carry a friggin fuel tank around with you. "Who ate all the pies...........who ate all the pies " :lol :lol
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

Scary reading this thread and I am probably the oldest! Did have a new hip last year which has proved to be a godsend, need surgery on arthritic shoulder but on a cocktail of meds which keeps it going for the time being, This a result of being knocked off the R1 in Scotland 2009 with an 8 day stay in Glasgow Southern General while they decided what to do.
However I have two dogs, so do a lot of walking, which I am sure helps, as I too have dodgy knees due to other non bike related accidents but not looking forward to a time when not able to ride my bike, hoping that is still a long way off :\
Age is a question of mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter!
If I had a brain I would be dangerous

Just been told today to stop riding my bike due to the lack of mobility in my left leg (knee) .If I do not agree to stop riding it until after I get a knee replacement I will have to surrender my licence.
Ah!! well it is to dammed hot here in Spain this time of year anyway. Time to see if I can do a few wee jobs on her.Drop the fork yokes a tad and rear suspension brackets to repaint etc!.
I thought I had found a way out when I went onto Pat's FZ page and located a foot  rest lowering kit but sadly the company that made the kit has stopped trading or stopped miking the kits.
Maybe time to look for something with a bit more upright riding position.  :'(

Sorry to hear that Lew, now over two weeks since I could bend my right knee enough to ride , awaiting results from yet more blood tests.
Old age is beginning to truly suck.

If its any consolation my father who is 85 this year had a new knee put in 7 years ago and hasn't had any bother with his knee since, everything else on his body is buggered but at least he has one good knee :)

Well give her a good wash down this afternoon , bit of a polish , looked longing at it. Said fuckit, something I never do. Banged me lid on , shorts and tee shirt and off I went. Hit the AP7 red lined it all the way for 20 mile or so. Yes the knee is fecked but what a rush.
Will hopefully get the job (knee ) done and take it from there.
It is midnight here and that was a few hours ago, fecking knee is a ballon.

:\  Funny how us 'Old Guys' tend to brag (well just a bit) about our age  :\

However ... I'd have to agree that growing old is probably the most difficult thing I've ever done ... and trust me ... I've done some difficult things :eek in my time.   The fifteen years of active service in the Navy started the downhill shuffle and slide.

Combat Diver and Underwater Weapons Specialist, etc.  Followed up with 40 more years of Commercial Diving and Sports Diving Instruction ... with some HGV Long Haul Trucking thrown in ... talk to me about lugging heavy loads about.

To date ... as far as I can remember ... I have a Port side Artificial Knee, Two Artificial Hips (one each side :( Port Side steel Elbow implants, Two steel 'self adjusting rams' in my Lower Back,  A steel upper jaw (with clip on teeth  :lol. Serious nerve damage to Upper and Lower Spine resulting in Balance problems plus Hand and Foot control agro.

The Bloody Arthritis Bug and some very Physical Graft have paid me back for my Fantastic Fun Filled Lifestyle and I currently hobble about with a clip on Starboard Side Crutch or my Ivanised Wheelchair if I need to go more than about 200 yards (to the loo).

Yes I'm still an active 'Biker' ... Honda CB1300 and Sports Sidecar ... I'm ok once I get my leg over  :rolleyes
Almost forgot (old age probs) I'm also about 75% deaf as a doorpost and I'll be 76 years young in October ... so I think I might still be the oldest Fart on the Forum ? :\

Need to scoot now ... I need another pee  :eek    Like I always say guys ... live it Now and Stay Safe  ;).

At 56 I should know better. Going to see the specialist on Monday with a left knee that sounds as though it's full of sand. Done it in playing five-a-side 22 years ago. Then I was overweight, I'm still overweight but now in pain. Even after two operations. I have a few medical problems that I don't want to moan about. One thing I do know is I love motorbiking and as I tell my wife I will continue to ride my bike until a doctor or the DVLA tell me I can't.
On a lighter side the young uns laugh at us but we know what's coming to you. :lol

I get cramp in my hips every time I get on the Fazer, I thought coming from a FZR the fzs would be more comfy but somehow it doesn't work like that! And I'm a mere whipper snapper at 46. Martial arts focced my knees, plus running  (no not for when the martial arts didn't work lol!) Got a dodgy lower back as well but nothing that would keep me off bikes. Maybe a different bike at some point but gotta keep riding.

Mate sent me a video of that mountain biker Martyn Ashton is it? Had a crash doing a stunt and is paralysed stomach down. Even he got back on his bike, but can't pedal so downhill only and his mates have to catch him at the bottom cos his feet are sellotaped to the pedals FFS! The guy is a total legend. I'll post the link if I can find it. Puts aches and pains into context.

People like that certainly make you rethink your own position.

I actually find that riding the bike is good for the aches. I don't know if it's because it keeps everything moving just enough to stop things seizing up without actually being strenuous enough to aggravate them, seems like that.

Had a review of my back injury at the trauma clinic today. The consultant seemed concerned that I turned up on the bike  :lol I just told him, this is what I do, that's all there is to it  :D His concern was more about what could happen rather than it being a problem in itself, but you can't live your life worrying about maybes.

This guy didn't let anything stop him riding either. Racing motorbikes with one arm and one leg.
