Better than an on board camera?

20 minutes is more than enough time in the film world, you can cram a hell of a lot of awkward camera shots into that time that can save the need for cranes, buggys, CAMERA OPERATORS, etc. 
A very high speed camera will give you a fraction of that filming time for instance

Only downside to it, without trying to sound negative, is the simple matter of fact that electronics fuck up on a regular basis, i see it every day with filming equipment at work.
So the time will come when you've just climbed that mountain, lob it up in the air, it fails to start, and you never see it ever again as it plummets to level ground.
Other than that small but definite possibility, i'm very impressed by the technology. 




At only £650 though i can imagine production and rental companies buying them all, i can't even begin to explain the money that could be saved on certain shots.

Looks good, if you have the patience to make proper little films - certainly opens up a whole new range of possibilities for the amateur vlogger.....Oh noes!!!

This bit of tech looks awesome! Some knobber in government is bound to put some tighter restrictions on drone flight and stop their useage!

Just thought with this little gadget, it can't avoid things like trees, pylons, phone lines, etc.
Could be interesting in the UK!!!

Some good points there, I hadn't considered it's usage in that sort of industry

I guess the underlying drone tech is useful but I would expect a much higher quality camera / lens to be used for large production films so it's back to the camera cranes

For the amateur video enthusiast it's an impressive piece of kit, no doubt... I wonder how fast it can fly... just thinking about the crazy people in squirrel suits

We use Codex cameras, GoPro, Canon 5D's, they're all still genuine HD quality so are more than capable of taking decent images even if just for a few seconds to slip into a commercial or TV or film.
These days most of those shots would need a drone operator, but otherwise you'd be talking about a helicopter aerial unit to get the shots.
The money and time saved would be phenomenal, and as you say it's also perfect for an amateur, firstly because of its versatility, but secondly because it's very affordable.
