Good effort Slappy :)

Dya reckon that flies only fly at helmet height & are also drawn towards visors like a moth to a light.......how come car windscreens dont get so covered.....maybe it really is an attempt by the flies to haul a biker off his bike & rob him in the ditch.

Maybe thats what happened to Nick.....no witnesses....slim paid off to hold back a bit and not see a thing :b

I was having a little fun with a Porsche one day coming back to London on a motorway, and we were doing a steady 90mph and i was happy to let him sit about 100+ metres ahead of me at this particular moment, then i saw this thing fly up in the air from what looked like the front of the car.
Obviously doing my best to keep an eye on the road at the same time, my eyes kept glancing up to try and figure out what it was in the air coming towards my direction, so i kept looking.......and looking.......and looking.......then, BANG, the bastard hit me straight in the centre of the visor!
Fortunately, i believe it was just a piece of light wood, but big enough for me to see hurtling through the air from a good distance. Left a centimetre scratch on the visor though.  :lol

That's why when i see these American films where they're all cruising around with no lids on, and sometimes without glasses, i just think if they get a nice big bumble bee in the boat race, you're really gonna know about it.

The only film that portrayed it in reality was this one.......

Any recommendations on cleaning the visor of bugs? Just curious to the methods that other people use

Generally I use a microfibre cloth which I damp to try and soften up the corpses. For someone reason I thought it would be a good idea to try and used WD40 the other day... now my helmet just smells of it...

I just take one wet sheet of kitchen roll and lay it/press it on the visor - leave for 10 mins to soak in then wipe off.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

Lol this is hilarious .. .. cos I almost did it myself last week!

So very close then I wondered to myself how long the smell would linger and decided I definitely didn't want to find out !

Same as above a warm damp kitchen towel layer on until the critters are nice and soft again

As for why we get hit and not cars so much I think it is because cars have a big pressure wave in front and the bugs hit that and go right over, wheras we cut through the air without disturbing it much in front.

I was catching some air with my visor open once and a bee hit my face and dropped past my chin and down my neck where it stung me, ever since then I wear a buff neck scarf

just fitted this today, bit of cloth soaked in window spray, wipe as you ride, I dont know what beasts I've been hitting but they seem to be full of oil and guts and just smear over your visor?

I use the kitchen roll method, but once it's soaked into the critters I remove it and then just use it to dab the worst off as I read somewhere that kitchen roll is a bit harsh and can scratch visors. Motul helmet and visor cleaner with a microfiber cloth to finish off.
