Yeah Firestorm's are awesome too but I think the TL in the R form looks so nice which is big praise from someone not too keen on sports bikes. Like you say though, tiny fuel tanks and thirsty engines are a let down. I don't often fill my Fazers tank, usually spend about a tenner but its nice to know when I do I can get 200 miles. My best record ever was 225 2 up in Wales although that was pushing it! I have the 18L tank I think, but yeah spending however much on 17L of fuel to do about 110 miles would get annoying especially when you're stuck behind a tractor or awful driver on solid double white lines and have to sit there at 25mph which seems like about every single ride these days.

Strangely enough, about 2 hours after writing my post this morning I was outside my work and a Firestorm slowly went past in front of me!

You have a 20 litre tank.

Sooo, a short update. 125 keys are sorted. I got the key code from the dealer and got 2 new keys cut. Ironically found my key 15 minutes after getting home from collecting the new keys so now I have 3... No harm though as it can't hurt to have spares.

Did my first day of my DAS today. 7 hours on a Honda cbf600 and I am now exhausted. Riding that bike was a genuine pleasure and I am now even more excited to pass and get my fzs, it was even more enjoyable than I ever imagined.

Riding my 125 home on the 35min journey after experiencing the 600 was less fun though... It felt like a toy and really put into perspective just how small it is.

If it were me and it had been sitting sorn for a while, id change oil oil filter air filter sparks, service brakes, check the chain. possibly drain the fuel tank.

I agree ;) I always give a new set of wheels a full going over when I get my hands on it. You know for sure where you stand with it then and you know it's running as well as it possibly can. To add to your list I'd grease all the bearings and linkages and oil cables.

She had hed MOT on Friday, needs the fork seals replaced. Booked her in for a service a week tomorrow. £300 pays for a full service including oil change etc and new fork seals. Should be pretty safe to ride after all that and then I will look at any future work I can do myself.

As above fella, many congrats on passing. :woot

This is going to be one long week but also good advice to give it a going over before you take it out. One day won't hurt after it gives you the satisfaction you've checked/had it all checked. Have fun and keep us posted  :thumbup

So kepha, how's the bike?

I passed mod1 and mod2 first time,  L plates have come off the 125, fazer is registered as mine, insured and taxed. Unfortunately though she's at my dad's waiting to go in for a service tomorrow and my dad lives 90 miles away so I haven't ridden her yet. Will be picking her up either Monday or Wednesday depending on how long the service takes and the weather. After experiencing riding a 600 on my tests the wait is almost unbearable but I'm going to take her over the Isle of Wight next weekend for a little trip to get used to her :)

Oh and dont worry the first thing I did was buy protective gear, I have furygan boots, gloves, trousers and jacket. Knox windbreakers and a good quality lid.

Glad I booked the bike for a service now. Riding her the 5 miles to the garage resulted in the forks leaking oil all over the front disc.

Should get her back on Monday :)

Make sure they check the fork leg fully as it may have a bit of pitting or a stone chip.
It might also be rust in the circlips or rust in the seal housing which causes them to deform, if there is rust in the seal housings change both seals.

Service was delayed, picked up he bike today. Dealer threw in £100 worth of gear for free to apologise for the delay so I was happy overall but by time I got her home my front disc was again covered in grease. Thinking they hadnt cleaned the disc well I took some brake cleaner to the discs and went for another ride but they are again covered in grease with no obvious place where its coming from so tomorrow will he spent working that out.

Happy with my purchase. Not happy with the current situation with the brakes

So, the guy who was doing your fork repair, hasn't actually fixed it?
Get onto him ASAP, regardless of the £100 sweetener he gave you, he hasn't done the job that you gave it to him to do, and he's caused you more grief.

I would question if he actually done anything with them or just got his young lad in workshop to clean over the front of your bike with a cloth as he'd forgot about you and could easily afford the £100 sweetener as it didn't cost him.anything in the first place!

Yep just the left disc. The fork seals have definitly been replaced. Oil has definitely been replaced. Generally I have been happy with the work from this garage in the past.

I will be going in tomorrow morning though because I am pissed about it. I have a 90mile trip tomorrow and I'm supposed to be going to the isle of wight on Friday. I can't do either with shoddy brakes.

Well, that's fair enough, thought it was just a normal garage that you took it to, not one that you'd been to before, or maybe you said that in an earlier post and I didn't pick up on it.

Is it the left disc?

What's on your mind that you ask if it was just the left disc?

They most likely over greased the housing for the speedo sensor/rotor and since it does not have a seal the extra grease is squeezed out and the spinning puts it on the disc. It is a bit careless of the mechanic, but at least you know they have greased it

Use a cloth to clean up the grease around the sensor/rotor and the inner part of the disc web. It is a nuisance, but should be ok after a sh

So after faffing around this morning I couldn't find the cause of the oil so I took the font brake pads out and it turned out they were shot and were still soaked with oil which was rubbing back onto the brakes. Bought a new pair of pads and fitted them and now she brakes perfectly and no more oil on the disc. Covered 150 miles today, wow am I happy, simply everything about her is a pleasure compared to my old bike.
