Why do they do it!!??
« on: 09 April 2015, 01:36:15 pm »
On my way home from work yesterday, in the cage as the Fazer is still being rebuilt, there was a tanker coming the other way and as i looked in my mirror after he passed I saw a motorcycle behind him less than 2 bike lengths back! Shortly after, a sports bike came speeding up behind me (A303 in Somerset, I'm sitting at 60) he then sat just inboard of my offside rear wheel at a distance of about 4 feet. He then went to overtake me on the approach to a crossroads AFTER I indicated right! I am seeing this more and more around here. Can anybody please explain to me the mentality of wanting to put yourself in this position? I really do not understand the self destructive nature of humankind!

Just as some drivers are completely idiots, the same applies to motorcyclists - they are unfortunately among us. I'd expect most motorcyclists who end up very close to the rear bumper of a car have never drive a car or have had very limited experience in doing so (usual exceptions to the rule apply).

I was sat patiently in traffic at lights for a roundabout before (sometimes I just feel no need to filter) and suddenly two sports bike filter up on the outside at speed and proceed to ignore the red lights and just go for it. Completely reckless and ridiculous manoeuvres...

I hate to say it but generally it does seem to be sports bike riders that do this. I am not saying all. And I know that they are the majority of riders out there, but I have never seen a Harley rider tailgating like that!
Running red lights is just asking to be killed!

It's not just motorcyclists. I was taking the bike to be mot'd yesterday and on a 3 lane roundabout the van in front of me (who was speeding and had already cut me up once) decided he didn't like the lane he was in and pulled out in front of me with no indication, without checking his mirrors and virtually nudging me out of the way. I sounded my horn and called him all the wankers under the sun but he stuck one finger up at me and drove off. I had to laugh though as the Police car on the inside of him (which he hadn't seen) switched his blues and twos on and went after him. I'd love to know what happened but I just carried on around the roundabout and went on my way chuckling to myself thinking "What a cock."
I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

Can anybody please explain to me the mentality of wanting to put yourself in this position?

Unfortunately some people don't actually know or realise how dangerous it is and the only way they'll learn is when it all goes horribly wrong :(

I think it might be something to do with not having a brain!

I've saw some real scary stuff, I drive trucks for a living, use a car and my bike socially but every day, someone does something that I think is silly, but I try and learn from it and put myself in their shoes and ask myself... What would I do to stop someone think I'm doing something silly?

Had 5 or 6 big bikes buzz me for fun by the underpass near the Ace Cafe a few years back, i was doing about 50mph, and they were doing about 90-100mph but weaving in and out of cars and nearly clipping my elbows deliberately, although the last one obviously wasn't quite up to the others manic standard and didn't see the cars stop lights come on further ahead.
I just waited for the crash to unfold, at one point he was aiming straight into the back of a car and i nearly had a brown trouser moment for him, but he somehow managed to avoid a collision?
I'm all for a bit of fun but that was just nuts.
There's a time and a place, and in my opinion that was not it on a busy Sunday afternoon on the North Circular.
