Cam chain and tensioner?
« on: 09 April 2015, 08:11:35 am »
Good morning chaps, would anyone know or be able to find the Yamaha part number for the cam chain and the tensioner for my '97 FZ400? D:

Edit: Sorry to be a pain I've just found that the chain and tensioner is the same as the FZS600, is that right? Also I do need new intake rubbers, would they be the same too?

I used 600 carb rubbers on the 400 and they worked fine. They are the same as far as I could see. I'd say the tensioner will be fine too. You can get the part numbers from the manuals in the download section

If it is the Fazer 600 look alike model FZ400 you have, then the answer is yes the intake rubbers  are a straight fit, no modifications (I used them also)
They are less restrictive than the 400 ones and give a better airflow at high revs and slightly higher (about 10mph) top speed.
The 400 ones have a restriction to maintain the 112mph top speed for the Japanese market.

The tensioner from the 600 is an upgrade of the 400 one and will fit.

Cam Chain is the same on both models

His Dudeness and I have uploaded a lot of info you require to the downloads section.

The FZ400 model code was 4YR and any part in the 600 parts catalogue beginning with 4YR is the same on both bikes, some items are upgrades to cater for the extra power of the 600 and will fit the 400 just like the tensioner is an upgrade.

Most of those manuals were yours from before you were on here. I'd take them down and let you put them up if I could but there's no option to delete them. They should really reference the author "Unfazed, P., 2009. Fz400 Manual. Yamaha. Cork: Ireland  :lol
