Signed up for this with my mate. I keep quite fit, but quite is the key word here. Time to get really fit...Anyone else doing it?

My mate whom I am doing it with has also done a few tough guy events. He enjoyed them. Was your issue with the event itself?

the race itself was great !

but I watched in horror as a bloke with a 3day old gsxr 600 had a fall out with (mr mouse) because during the night some one had used spray glue on his bike to stick a parking warning on it ! , he was parked in the wrong place but he didnt want to leave it in a open field 3/4 mile away across the farm with no securaty .
we had a handicap bus and had the same thing !

police not interested in the slightest !

the race great ,the bloke an ars.......      his only interest is the money which is all for his charity ! I would love to see his accounts

Coupla dudes I studied with have signed up to It. Fuck that I say. I started playing soccer again, started mma, cut back on the lager (double vodka all the way), smoking less and cut near all fat out my eating. That will do for now until I cough up all my lung butter
Smell ones mother. Yaas!

Well the training is well under way. Been doing this all week...Finished the nightshift this morning at 6am. Came in, got changed and cycled for 40 min as hard as I can. Arrived home, ditched the bike and jogged for 40 min. Came inside and done the weights and stuff for an hour. Then I went for a sleep. Just woke up and I feel like 4 guys have been kicking the sh*t out me in my sleep. I know the missus usually does, but she's just one and its not normally that bad  :lol .

Up to Mugdock park today for some free running and I'm gonna try run up the cobbler on saturday with a 65L rucksack on.

Having done these a few times ,I guess you could call me a veteran !   even if its just because of my age

but as a verteran some advice

firstly  dont expect any of the clothes you ware to be usable after the race ! they get ripped to shreds

find a wall about 10ft high and then try and climb over it not as easy as it sounds trust me !

wear long sleeve top and cut down joggers . but cut down so as they still cover your knees when bent over
or crawling

if you want to be seen by friends make sure the top is a shocking colour mine was flouresant yellow

make sure the joggers dont hold water like the fleece ones and make sure the stay up when went and running !

gloves trust me very important , i found push bike gloves best like fingerless one but with a tuff leather palm !

socks, your feet maybe used to running, but not with gravel mud water and bits of weed stuffed into them

a good pair of double skinned walking socks was the best thing i found, no need for knee high

apart from that plasters on your nipples and vicks under your nose
plasters to stop joggers nipple but also as you climb over obsticles or crawl on your belly .

 and one last thing !

dont under any circstances do not ! swallow any water !

no points for guessing why !

 apart from that have fun

Thanks for that snapper. Cut down joggers, what kind then? Cotton or nylon are the two main ones? I was going to use running tights and a pair of shorts...Keeps all my man-bits in and gives me options if I need to ditch one of them.

I noticed a lot of people with gloves in the youtube vid's.

Shoes? I was thinking trail running trainers. Infact I bought a new pair yesterday for this very reason.

I'm not bothered about loosing the cloths, as long as they are comfy enough and stop that jaggy nettle feild ripping me to shreds  :'(

Oh ffs third time typing due to "an internal error "
seems to happen when ever I preview a post first !
 ok
"running tights and a pair of shorts" sounds like it will be a better idea , as long as it covers your knees !
I had to crawl through concerte pipes, in the run i did my knees were red raw after just one set

shoes ! its up to you I used old running shoes
but as long as they dont get pulled of when your foot is burried 18 inches down in mud  like treacle
dont do them up to tigh as that could be just as bad
to be honest it mostly common sence
i have copied this , this time !

Cheers Snapper. I will take it on board. I intend to run round & swim through Abes loch (near Glasgow) when the weather gets a bit better.Should help with the wet and muddy running. It is more of a personal challenge. I don't expect to get a great time. Under 3 will do for me. I remember climbing Nevis a few years ago. My mate and I stopped for a "herbal" cigarette and these 2 guys a good 10 years older than us ran past us. We were not on the tourist route, it was tough groung work and these 2 crazy foccers were running up, no gear, no water, no food, no nothing. Then passed again before we reached the top. At that point I realised I was never meant to be an athlete, although the smoking should have been a hint!

But it is good to challenge yourself, within your own ability.
