Gear lever confusion
« on: 12 December 2014, 12:22:00 pm »
I hope someone can help me identify what year this gear lever is from.

The spring on the footrest broke, so I bought a complete footrest/gear lever/heel guard assembly off ebay, choosing one from a 2000 bike that matches my own.

When fitting it, I found it wouldn't fit as the gear lever is straight, whereas my one is slightly S shaped.

I've looked on ebay for more examples, but it's a bit of a minefield of mis-information. It looks like the S lever is from Gen2 bikes, but then why is it on my Gen1?

Does anyone know what years/models the straight lever is from, so I can resell it with an accurate description?

Have a look on AJ Sutton website, per year.
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.

Jamie ive got the complete assembly in my shed from when i stripped it.

If you want ill take some pics of it later if it helps you see what it should look like as mine was off a 2001 that was manufactured in 2000.

I'm wondering if a previous owner has straightened it for some reason?

It would be OK, but I have crash bars that mount on the same bolts as the hangers, and have less clearance.

If it's not as it should be, I won't bother trying to flog it.

That lever doesn't look right. If your existing lever assembly is ok,can't you just fit the footpeg from the e-bay assembly  to that?.

So it seems like it's been straightened to try to accommodate a rider with bigger feet?.
