2 piece waterproof oversuits
« on: 06 October 2014, 10:16:00 am »
Hi,

I am thinking about getting a waterproof over jacket as my one piece is a bit haggard and using it today I found that the legs are a bit short when I wear my leg armour under it ( the last time I used it

I have some waterproof over leggings that work really well (karrimor ones - they have no matching jacket).  I had a SPADA one years ago but it always let water in at the zip...

Just wondering if anyone here has a good over jacket one they would recommend.

Cheers!

More Mile make some good waterproof gear. I have a cycling jacket that (just) fits over my alpinestars jacket. It folds away to nothing and keeps me dry in an unexpected downpour. I used it on a 17 day tour in August/September, and as long as I got it on before the rain started, I was always dry and warm. It rained for 8 days solid too... I think it is the elite tour jacket.

Not quite sure what to do with my early mid-life crisis. Ideas on a post card to P.O.BOX 150...

I have used one of the ALDI's waterproof jackets for years and it has never let in a drop.
Use it over my Goretex gear in the winter and it keeps the rain, wind and crud away aswell. Not that compact and won't fit under the seat on the FZ1, although you can barely get a Mars Bar under there  ;)

Best £8.99 I ever spent, although not seen them for sale for a while so that does not help you much  :rolleyes

Got an old ex-police Gore tex high vis jacket that I throw over my bike gear in the coldest/wettest weather.
Toasty, completely waterproof, and pretty cheap if I remember.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

just to add my 2 pence..

I use a set of military issued Gortex (both normal & Desert cammo patterns) and they work really well... if you can find a army surplus place they will probably have some!) I know the place in Redruth had some as I sold a load of kit to them not too long back!!

+1 for military surplus.

Johnson of Leeds, attend all the big rallies (oop North, anyway), huge army surplus. In the worst of weather, I use a German fleck tarn jacket over my normal kit (which is pretty good anyway, hence its only in the worst weather I bother with the German kit). It's goretex, it cost me £20 6 or 7 years ago, and has never leaked. Bargain.

Depending whether you're okay with hi-viz, these flexothane jackets are very lightweight, waterproof, windproof, BREATHABLE, and even tear proof.
They also makes no noise and can stretch as well.

I bought the inner quilted all yellow one years ago and it's a fantastic material, it also keeps you at the same temperature whether it's hot or cold.
Such a shame they don't do a better range of colours.
The unquilted one is good for over leathers, and they used to cost over £100.

Lidl best bicycle jacket, bought 2 for €24 and usually last 4 to 5 years :)
Mountaineering waterproof pants suitable for putting on over crampons. €30 in a sale :)
Zips top to bottom on outside of leg and a doddle to put on quickly.
Lasted 4 years with duct tape over the part damaged in the SMIDSY last October.

I find the Aldi/Lidl stuff to be good in general and a lot of my gear is from there.  No waterproofs in stock at the mo though so I got an ARMR over jacket on sale and some HELD gloves (recommended by Pieman on here).
