Why are gen1's in good nick and low mileage going for far less than they are worth..? Regarding the above bike, if its as clean as it looks its an easy £3k all day long, surely..?

There is no sense in it is there?
Logic would suggest that if pristine 600s are advertised for £1500-£1800 or thereabouts then a really good thou should be £k2-£k3+.
Looking at ASKING prices on ebay,MCN etc doesnt tell us what these bike actually sell for(if at all)
Its all about demand/supply & I guess there are far more top quality/well sorted FZS 1000s than there are buyers looking for them.
The average age of motorcyclists is increasing due to several factors and the potential purchasers of larger machines are being "seduced" by big adventure bikes with all the bells & whistles.
The only bikes that are currently increasing in value are those from the so-called "golden era" of the 70s and other "exotica". These are being bought up for nostalgic reasons or as "investments" since the likely return on such has to be better than on cash in banks/ISAs etc.
OUr beloved thous are at their low-point (9-13 years old). Perhaps in a few more years time when there are fewer good ones left prices may go up but there will be no big bulge of returnees/born agains as happened in the early 2000s as fewer people are going through the process of getting a bike licence and a  lot of those that do are riding smaller commuter bikes. Cash/credit has become tighter.
Biking for many is now a leisure pursuit.

Simple supply and demand.  FZS600's have a great reputation as a first "big bike", so are in demand.  This looks a lovely bike and I'd be tempted if I could get away with it with the wife, but it's worth what somebody will pay  :\

It sure will not just be a Fazer thing, it will be across the board , sounds like a buyers market now :)
