Loomies closing down
« on: 02 September 2014, 04:04:28 pm »
Bad times. Loomies is closing mainly due to increase in the rent plus a few months ago they were burgled and had the takings stolen.
I wonder how long before several Poxy little houses are rammed onto the spot.

It's a biker friendly cafe in Hampshire. A cracking meeting place

"At the end of August our contract on the lease of the building we rent, ran out .... As there has been changes to the new lease we have decided not to renew ! The robbery we had a few months ago helped with our decision to close for good ..... As we are loomies ..... Loomies will be closed for good on the 26th oct 2014.....
We would like to Thank you all for the 7 years and for making it so great . We have loved it . What an amazing life experience it has been , we have met and gained great friends we have also met some strange people lol .
I will miss you all .... Poor Leon it's only going to be him I shout at now
."

Sad indeed. I've only been there twice, but it's always a shame when any biker-welcoming café or meeting point closes. It's always nice to know that if you're in a particular area, there's somewhere you can stop for a breather where folks will be welcoming, and you can natter with other like-minded individuals and perhaps see something interesting of the 2 wheel variety.

Maybe we ought to get one more visit in before it closes?

I only live about 10 mins from Loomies, It really is sad to hear that it is closing, i have been there a few times & the atmosphere there is awesome with a mixture of old & new bikes/bikers. There is a biker friendly cafe in Alton next to the railway station which opens late on a wednesday,i think its open from March to October on Bikers Nite. But there is also Portsdown hill for all those who know where it is which has an awesome burger van & a amazing view over Portsmouth & the Solent.

I was going to post this, but I see fireblake got there first :-/

This is a real bugger, Loomies has been a great place to meet people, finish off Group Rides or just get a bite to eat after a days bimbling around the roads in the Meon Valley and related areas :(

It was also where Hampshire Police used to finish their BikeSafe rides and, of course, where we in the Solent Advanced Motorcyclists would then try to get people to sign up for Advanced Training :)

There aren't really any other such places convenient nearby, so I'm not sure where we'll all go next...

A real shame, really enjoyed a ride-out from Bristol, across the Plain and back with Loomies as the stop for grub.

There are rumours that it's going to be/ has already been bought out, but I've not heard any hard information yet.

Unfortunately I'm busy this Sunday :(

a very busy Loomies

Bikes parked on the road and both nearby layby's were rammed,  as was the petrol station and pub. Over 3000 bikes and the Café has been bought by 2 bikers who will keep the name. Good times

Oh, 'cept there probably won't be for me, on second thoughts, as I'm likely moving oop north next spring  :\

The latest news from their Facebook page:

Quote
    Hello from the new owners...

Loomies has been providing a second home to us and the rest of the biking community for many years - and when we heard Jane and Leon had decided not to renew the lease - we were gutted to think it would close.

So we decided to club together to try and save it and we're pleased to announce we've done it - Loomies will be staying part of our biking community for many years to come.

We look forward to Loomies being part of your biking experience for many years to come - and we hope we can extend a welcome to you that Jane and Leon would be proud of.

    Will and Paul
