Insurance renewal
« on: 27 January 2014, 12:50:15 pm »
So, just had the insurance renewal quote through from Bennets for the fzs600... They quoted me £250, I had a look around online and found it for quite a lot cheaper so phoned and suddenly they can do it for £213, still too much I said so looked around again and got the same cover from Bike sure for £144!!

I'm 26, fully comp, 4 years NCB, covers me to ride other bikes 3rd party, all mods declared, legal cover and helmet and leather cover. Very helpful on the phone and it was a uk call centre which is definitely a good thing.

Always worth phoning when you get a renewal quote as they can always do it cheaper!

Chris

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Good result there Chris nice added extras.

Ive gone budget basic on my insurance at £80 TPF&T.

Im basically just legal to ride on the road, nothing else but still it's cheap motoring.

Looking back on my crash im actually not sure i would have even claimed if i was fully comp so this third part is the best for my needs at the mo.

Question-is there much bike theft on the island?, surely it would be quashed pretty quickly & they'd need to get them off the island quickly which would involve a ferry & lots of cctv etc, basically is it a low risk area for insurers.

I found Bennetts to be similar to Admiral with insurance. They are pretty good for new customers, but their renewal prices are atrocious

When I was with them, I paid about £400 for the year. Come renewal time, they suddenly wanted £500~ and in that time, nothing had changed except for being a year older and having 1 more years NCB. Madness! Think I ended up renewing for about £250

Hey Noggers, It's very rare for a car or bike to be stolen up here maybe once or twice a year and it's usually some kid taking their mum or dads car for a spin and is returned within an hour of being reported.

I'm always astonished at how crap insurance renewal quotes are. They say they've checked all their insurers and then you phone and suddenly they can do it cheaper! Like I said, always worth phoning at least and checking other insurers to see if you're having your pants pulled down over it.

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

I actually found my cheapest quote with Hastings this year. Bennett's just couldn't match their price (for me anyway). It's odd how some insurers price things differently. You would think their risk calculations are broadly similar?

Hastings were very close to bike sure's quote but took far too long to answer the phone so I went with Bike sure.

I always imagine the insurance offices being like mini stock exchanges or something where all these boards are flipping over really quickly, or like the Matrix& it is pot luck taht when you call up the figures are good.

Bit of an insurance fruit machine.

I have got a focced up mind though. 8)

I reckon at that rate you must have a declared annual mileage of Zero, Nice one though I am only jealous, I am getting quotes for my FZ1 £101.00 but that is without breakdown cover , so the search goes on.

I got a nice low quote through MCN, it was MCE was the cheapest, then I saw £1050 excess

Foc off I said! JMI were better with £175 excess.

Don't go for legal cover, get it through Your Key free on t'internet, free to register, only starts if you have an accident and they recover all costs from the 3rd party

Don't go for the bike recovery option if you or your missus has a personal policy for the cage(s), it will cover any vehicle (check your policy first though but I'm on personal cover with Mrs JZS through RAC)

Word of warning with Swinton, the automaticly renew your policy.
Last year rang the 2 days before renewal to cancel, "sorry but your policy has already been renewed"
I had trouble understanding this as my policy still has 2 days to run.
Numorus calls to "customer services" and eventually got it cancelled.
I'd rather pay more than have to deal with them again.

I started off with Carol Nash when I returned to biking 7 years ago , the initial quote was very competitive , but they ramped it up every year , so checked around and found Bennetts the cheapest and have stayed with them with the fazer , and my premium went down this year , although I am 48 and have 7 years no claims on the bike , but it does seem to be a lottery though .
