Ok Stupid computer question number 8930541....
« on: 16 December 2011, 08:50:20 pm »
father xmas is delivering a tablet pc which apparently has a

Memory

  • 2GB SD Built In
  • Micro SD card Expandable upto 32GB
  • 256MB RAM
does this mean i need to buy a 30GB sd card to use the exsisting 2 giving me 32, as they only seem to come in 2,8,16 and 32 or can i buy a 32 and it will only use 30 of it and the 2 thats already lurking in it somewhere (expect more silly questions on xmas day when the box is open)

oh and another thing, should father xmas plug it in and charge it, before xmas day so its ready to go, or is the fun of waiting for it to bleep and tell you its ready to use all part of the fun of the day ??

I would expect it to allow you to plug in a card and have that capacity plus the onboard 2GB available to use, eg 8GB card + 2GB onboard = 10GB available
On the charging question, always allow full out of the box use if possible. My mum still provides batteries for presents where needed, even those that come with 'demo' batteries supplied.

Has someone been good this year then? :)

If you plug a 32GB card in, it will use all 32GB.  If someone produces a 64GB SD card and you put one of those in, it won't recognise it as it can only go up to 32GB.

But I'm a little intrigued as to how you have a direct line to father xmas and know what he is due to deliver?

64GB cards are available, but like most new developments, not as good value as the smaller cards (around £100, compared to £25 for a 32GB card).
Also 64GB cards use SDXC format which is different to the SDHC format of the smaller cards.

Father xmas is not delivering it to me, its being delivered here to someone who has been good this year.

so if i order a 16GB card that will be fine, and then if a bigger one is needed it can be changed over,  the one father xmas has got is only one of the little ones, but i hope father christmas will open it and charge it up before its wrapped under the tree for a very good little (well not so little) boy to open lol

i love the fact that a) you can write to Father Christmas and get a reply back (in fact all 3 of my step kids have been told he knows they have been good so will be getting presents)
b) you can track his progress around the globe on the internet!
c) he manages to eat & drink all thats left for him and not get done for drink driving!

when I was in Afghanistan one of the Gurka's with us, surname was Santa. well I think everyone had their picture taken with him and sent it home!! can you imagine battle hardened Servicemen & women having a picture with Santa!!!! good times!!
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!

Even if it's been pre-charged, that could have been some time ago, so it's always worth giving it a top-up beforehand.

I believe you can use it while it is being charged I presume.
