With a cold snap closing in on us, thought I'd give the MT10 a spin out round the lanes while it's still relatively mild and dry-ish.
Lots of muddy roads and damp patches helped keep my wits about me but felt good to get out and ride.

Took her home and washed her down to remove the crud and salt and put her to bed. :)

No need to worry about the oil cooler......the front wheels hardly ever on the ground, whenever I've followed it :lol .

Hello Dave, it did come with a  silver guard as standard but not the rad. The first thing I did when I got it was fit a Beowulf rad and matching oil cooler guard. I must admit, it does look vulnerable down there which is why you have to wheelie everywhere, honest guv. :b

What a cracking day that was - just the tonic I needed to lift the winter blues! :) Hacked it down to the Filling Station cafe in Keswick for a bacon butty and cuppa. Usual welcoming, pretty smiling face serving at the counter   :)  The day was properly spring-like; mild, a gentle breeze, sunny. Roads were mostly dry (took a little care in shaded areas, where it was still a bit cool and damp), and was able to seriously wind the taps on  :evil From Keswick, took the A591 down to Ambleside. Caught the beautiful stretch of grippy, winding tarmac down alongside Thirlmere almost empty; just a couple of bikes, riders obviously still in winter mode, and a couple of cars to zap past, the Striple screaming happily. Took a couple of snaps just outside of Keswick, but was having too much fun to stop for more:

Helvellyn in the cloud:

Stopped at Ambleside to wander round the outdoor gear shops, looking more for biking solutions than for the hills. Saw some interesting possible solutions to the problem of bulky bike gear - might have to go and try some things on, but didn't bother today. Got chatting to a nice young lady in one of the shops, and we both bemoaned the lack of imagination in colours of fleeces &c.  :rolleyes Then back the same way, and this time caught the 591 by Thirlmere completely empty - yeehah! What a hoot!  :evil Couple more shots from nearly the same place on the way back to the cafe.
Farm, with Grisedale Pike in the background:

Skiddaw:

Then ragged it past all the traffic on the 595 back to Carlisle, taking every fleeting chance to get past cars, lorries and tractors; seemed like I got home in about 2 minutes :lol

Don't you just love that short length of dual carriageway on the southbound towards Thirlmere 😈😈

That stretch is too short! Proper little roller coaster. I take it you know the similar one along by Bassenthwaite Lake on the A66? Even better! It has average speed cameras on it now, but they're front facing  :D  But the bit that goes alongside Thirlmere is my favourite. Get it during the day, during the week and it's often almost empty.

Ordered some stuff for the '88 FZR1000 I'm rebuilding/restoring. Yamaha "FZR pure sports" decal from Germany £50, a couple of nice lower frame rails from ebay £32 and a new Yamaha decal set for the R/H side panel from CNSL at £65. Its a shame the guy left it uncovered in his garden for 3 years, the sun faded the graphics on the R/H side.

Going to drop the engine and get it soda blasted and repaint it next.

Sorry to hear that taylor, how old is the old boy?
Is he still mobile?
And does he have his marbles still?
I'm interested cos I worked in a care home for about 8 years as a change from building work during a slump in the 1990's.
My second question is the most important about him still being compos mentis, if he still has a sharp mind it might be hard for him.
How close is the care home to your home?
Hope you don't mind me asking? it is personal I know but then you did post it in here so I guess it's OK.

Day before yesterday, did my favourite circuit of the Lake District, from a purely riding point of view anyway.
Esk estuary at Ravenglass:

St. John's in the Vale and Blencathra:

I was aching like buggery later that evening - so little winter riding this year!

After a six month lay off, (in sympathy of my brother having his Husky stolen)  had a day out on the DRZ with a few others and hit the green lanes.
Felt like a complete novice at first and found myself lagging behind at my own pace till I felt confident on the slippery stuff.
Feeling it now mind you.
After a particularly gnarly lane on the way home we came across a black ford fiesta  wedged across the lane, progress halted by a fallen tree.
I naturally assumed it had been stolen and dumped ......BUT I shit you not, sat in the drivers seat was a woman who thought she'd take a short cut  :eek  How the fuck she got it that far I'll never know and apparently she was  a school teacher  :eek
Rather than reverse until she found a suitable place (about 40-50 meters the way she'd come) to do a 3 point turn, she had tried to do it in a heavily rutted bit with trees and a drop one side and a bank the other.
We managed to straighten her up, reverse it back and turn it around so she could drive it back the way she had come.
Should've took some photos of her predicament to show the level of her Darwinian achievement. :D

Took the Ducati Scrambler for its first ride , what a fantastic bike to ride , light and nimble , which makes filtering easy ,  stickcs to the road like shit to a blanket , don't know if it's the tyres or the suspension which gave me so much confidence in the corners , great torquey engine , I have to keep it under 6k revs , that's 80 in 6th until its run in , sounds great , 140 miles to a tank , a screen would improve it if doing lots of motorways or long distances , I would recommend foccers getting in touch with a dealer and booking their test ride .
