Foxeye Drive Chain Kit
« on: 14 January 2014, 11:26:38 am »
Just a short one but I feel the need to clarify after being fed 2 opposing pieces of info.

Recently purchased a new genuine Yamaha drive chain kit for my 5RT1 model Fazer.
The kit itself was advertised as 2000-2003, but the box received has 1998-2000 written on it in big black marker pen.
After raising the point with the seller they say that the kit should be fine with 1999 - 2002 models.
However my research says that the part number changed when the Foxeye model arrived.

Part number I received: 5DMW001A0100
Part number I supposedly need: 5DMW001A0000

My question: Can I use the chain I have received as the seller says (the part number changed but not the part?) or should I insist on an exchange?

There's no change in that area of the bike from each model so it'll be hunkydory!

Part number: 5DM-W001A-00-00 has been superceded by 5DM-W001A-01-00.
Usually when parts are updated they change the last digits, in this case 00 is the first version and 01 is the updated version.

Don't think the pitch or number of links changed throughout the lifespan of the model so it should be fine.
Possibly misleading advertising if you wanted to go down that route but if you got it for the right price I wouldn't bother.

No misleading advertising, it is because when you quote the old number it is no longer available and they automatically recieve the new revised model and give it to you.
Sprockets have the same part number accross the range
The only difference is the chain on the Foxeye is a higher spec than the chain on the Boxeye and will fit without any issues

Good choice of kit. I love the genuine front sprocket. They are about £90 if you buy one separately.

Bargin, well spotted. They used to cost £90 from there a few years ago.
