Speedo, rev counter & warning lights playing up?
« on: 02 December 2013, 03:58:28 pm »
I was out on my Gen 1 yesterday and my speedo and rev counter kept cutting out. Also the oil, fuel and overheating lights flashed on briefly a few times.

Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks

John

Hi John, gotta be the main plug for the dash wiring playing up I would think, the oil/fuel/overheat lights will come on briefly when the power gets back into the system as part of the self check.
Have you got the wiring diagram? It's downloadable from this very site.

Thanks guys, I'll check the main plug, the battery is only a few months old  and the bike starts easily.

Cheers

Almost definitely connector corrosion
Pull all the block connectors  under the tank and under the faring infill apart, spray them with WD40 and but them back together. That should sort it

Hi guys,

I just realised that i never posted what I found. I took the block connectors apart and cleaned them, both behind the screen and under the fairing trim panel. at the same time I found that the earth connection to the battery was slightly loose so I tightened it. I don't know which of these was the culprit but all has been fine since  :D

Cheers
