Wiring loom
« on: 17 November 2013, 12:55:48 pm »
I bought a wiring loom a few months ago off fleebay advertised as a 400 loom. Only got a chance to look at it today and it looks like it's a 600 loom :rolleyes . It has a two pin connector going to the ignition and the 400 has a four pin. It also has two extra connectors near the cdi connector probably for an alarm which the 400 doesn't have. My question is how hard would it be to modify the fleebay loom to work on the 400?

If you have a wiring diagram of the four, you can work out easily enough what's redundant. As the Fazers' loom has evolved with time, the diagrams in the back of the Haynes should help you identify which is which.  :)

ta ;)  I'll study the diagrams. I was thinking about adding in a fuel pump so maybe the 600 loom will work out better.

I've a feeling that it's not getting enough juice at full wack. The vacuum tap under the tank it a little corroded so I think the fuel supply can't keep up with the demand.

Have you opened the tap?
I had a similiar problem and when I opened the tap the spring was corroded and was not allowing the tap to open or close fully. Used a spring from an old carburretor which was the same size and it has been fine since. :)
The part number starts with 4KM which is the code for the xj900 which means it is likely the tap is the same as the early XJ900s. I know it is the same as the same  BT1100 Bulldog (5JN2) because I checked it before I fixed mine.

Yeah I opened it up ages ago. I can't really remember if there was a spring in it but the aluminium is corroding on the inside so I think it's restricting the tap on the vacuum side. I'd say I would have to get a 600 tap anyway if I put a pump on it.
