For Sale: FZS 1000 with 5554 miles
« on: 11 November 2013, 08:00:36 pm »
For sale is my stunning FZS 1000 with 5554 miles.
The bike was pre-registered by Charles Hurst Yamaha in Belfast on 10.3.2004  it was then purchased three weeks later by its one previous owner on 1.4.2004.  By way of some background, the previous owner was a single man in his mid 50’s and lived with his mother.  The bike was his one and only interest and he cherished it from new.  In recent years he sustained a back injury and more or less gave up biking.  In the course of trying to persuade him to sell it I made three visits to him and so many phone calls that I simply lost track.  Even on the day I picked it up (25.9.13) he was unsure whether or not he would let it go.  The transaction was something to remember to say the very least!
As one would expect, it comes with the original and complete tool kit, owner’s manual, three keys and all old MOT’s and even tax discs.  The current MOT expires on 9.3.14 and tax is valid until 30.4.14.
I have mentioned above that I acquired it on 25.9.13 after many years searching for a first generation Fazer 1000.  I had read all of the reviews both online and in the motorcycle press over the years.  I had earlier in the year ordered a brand new Harley Davidson Breakout and part exchanged by R1200GSA in that deal.  The dealer wanted my bike straight away and I would not receive my HD until some time in October/November.
The Fazer came up at the right or wrong time (depending on how you look at it) and being bike-less and bored coupled with the fact that it was without exception the best example I had and was ever likely to see I had to make the purchase.  I rode it home, put it in the garage and then set about making a perfect machine even more perfect, as is the way I approach my motorcycles.  It is kept in my garage where the humidity is controlled (to stop the Harley rusting!!), hooked up to an optimate and Yamalube fuel stabiliser added to the tank.
Bikes are often described in a number of ways by sellers.  Words such as “clean”, “very clean”, “pristine”, “immaculate” all come to mind.  This bike is quite simply the best example of a first generation FZS 1000 I think you will find and it is completely unmarked and perfect in every way.  I can say no more in my description of it.
I have carried out the following maintenance/upgrades:
Exup valve complete disassembly and lubrication.
Oil and filter change with genuine parts/lubricants
Air filter change with genuine filter
Fuel filter change with genuine filter
Coolant replaced with genuine Yamalube coolant
Complete service of all brake callipers.  Red rubber grease and copper grease applied as appropriate.
Removal of downpipes, new exhaust gaskets and studs.  All liberally copper greased to enable future ease of maintenance
Replacement of all brake disc bolts with stainless steel bolts
Replacement of front calliper mounting bolts with stainless steel bolts
Replacement of rear sprocket bolts with stainless steel bolts
Fitted a brand new set of Pirelli Diablo Strada tyres
Fitted a new genuine Yamaha smoked screen (original is included and immaculate)
Removal of rear shock and lubrication of the whole assembly
Fitted Lush Racing linkages giving a 40mm ride height increase
Fitted Philip X-treme Vision H4 headlight bulbs
Fitted Cree LED side light bulbs
Fitted clear indicator lenses and new bulbs
Professional wheel refurbishment by Paintbox (our local highly regarded motorcycle paint specialist).  Wheels painted in BMW Sepang Bronze with satin lacquer (similar to the colour of the rims on the new 2014 VFR800)
ACF 50 applied where appropriate
All nuts and bolts meticulously checked and triple checked for correct torque and where directed in the service manual thread lock applied.

The bike is fitted with:
Genuine Yamaha hugger (colour coded as per below).
Full Skidmarx fairing professionally colour matched and colour coded by Paintbox in correct Yamaha Silver Tech S3 paint.
The bike has not turned a wheel since I returned home with it.  I have taken great delight in seeing it evolve over the weeks and given that I am intending to sell it and out of respect to a potential new owner I will not now ride it.  When it is collected it will be cleaner and more impressive than any machine sitting in a dealer’s showroom.
The reason I am selling it is, for me anyway, quite simple.  I am going to buy another bike that I have longed to own for some time, a KTM 990 SMR.  I like extremes and on the one had I have the Harley which will barely make it through a corner without grinding, and on the other the KTM, which is probably at the top of the tree in the handling stakes.
In terms of transport options, I will gladly collect a serious viewer from any port/airport in Northern Ireland.  I’ll even accompany someone back to a port/airport both of which are about 50 miles from my home which is in Cookstown, Co.Tyrone.
If your preference is to have the bike professionally transported then I can recommend this chap who is based in N.Ireland:
http://davysmotorcycletransport.co.uk/
The cost of having the bike transported over is circa £250.
The price of all this Fazer goodness is £4500 and I am not negotiable on this.  I will however do my very best to make the handover of the bike as smooth and hassle free as possible for the new owner and I’ll make sure that it is fully fuelled, tyres correctly inflated and ready to ride away safely and in complete satisfaction.  If it is to be collected I will ensure that it is properly uplifted and prepared for transport.  I will ensure that the bike is treated in a manner that I would expect if I was buying it.
I have not advertised the bike anywhere else.  It’s posted here as I know that these machines are very properly appreciated and highly regarded on the forum and I would like someone with a degree of appreciation to acquire it.
The photos below should be treated as a bit of a teaser.  I am awaiting the return of the new Skidmarx fairing from Paintbox along with the hugger which should be with me come Wednesday this week.  I’ll obviously take some more photos then showing the complete bike.
I would prefer to deal with any queries via pm.

Bit confused, you searched for years for a top notch fazer and 7 weeks after buying it and doing a shedload of work on it, it's for sale?
Or have I missed something?
Very fine example though I must say!

I expect the odd spoiler.

There are a few examples on ebay around £3700 - £3800 but they won't be anywhere near this one.

Agreed this example won't suit everyone.  A lot of these first gens live in the £2.5k region but this bike is simply
in a different class.

If it's not your type of thing just click and move on I say :)

Yep, that's me I'm afraid.  We're all different.

There's a bike sitting in the garage at £19.5K, I might keep it a while and move it on too.

My GSA was the same.  Tourateched to the hilt and in showroom condition.  When I left it in to the dealer
there was no cleaning to be done to it.  A friend of the sales man bought it that day.

Maybe I'm crazy :rolleyes

Lovely bike but most of us on here would buy a bike to ride not simply to attempt to keep in mint showroom condition. Although in one sense its a credit to its former owner-did he ever really enjoy ownership or was he too worried about a bit of rain or mud?  When I owned mine it was a credit to its former owners but had also been ridden & thoroughly enjoyed. Bling is good but there are many useful mods to these Gen 1 thous eg "Ivanising" & suspension upgrades. I would be very surprised if you find anyone willing to pay what you are asking and I presume you bought it and then found it didnt  meet your expectations. In the present recession there are many for sale in top condition around £2500-£3000 but I wish you well!

Agreed there are many out there in top condition for £2500-£3000.

I don't think the previous owner enjoyed the bike at all, he too suffered from a rain and mud phobia.

It's a dilemma, knowing what to do with such a perfect example but I suspect the next set of photos might show it sitting in a bike bubble :'(

Good luck with the sale

I notice you werent actually asking the question "is this bike too pricey" & you are honest that it is at the top end of the scale.

Very nice looking example worth drooling over for a while & i have visited a few times after getting a dry mouth :lol , when i get my next bike i hope to find one from your type of seller as the price is the price, information is aplenty, no foccing about either i have the money or i dont.

Only down side is that you are in Belfast so slightly limited audience .

Good luck!
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Those pics are just Fazer porn. Pure porn.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if you get 4.5k for it. Last year, I saw the odd very low miles Gen 1 at that kind of price in dealers. Obviously, they would be taking hundreds quid out of it at sale time, but any buyer would be very very confident buying your bike even compared to getting a dealer warranty. I've never seen a better looked after example.

Thanks

Hopefully some pics shortly on the new Skidmarx bodywork fitted.  Should look awesome.

A good friend had a new model CBF 1000 which was a great bike but the more I study this Fazer the more I think the design is still current.  It's a sleek and beautifully designed machine.  I remember reading a review many years ago in Ride or TWO by a journo who rode over 900 miles in 24hrs  on a Gen 1.  I'd like to read that report again as he gave the bike a fabulous report.

Anyhow, waiting excitedly for the bodywork and colour matched hugger then I'll put up some shots of this thing in all it's glory!

Stay tuned.....

Aye. I think Gen 1 was years ahead of it's time.

Compared to the Transformers look of bikes like the new Z1000, though, I have to say it is looking a bit dated. But then again, I've always liked it's looks and more importantly, it's a doddle to work on so the design is much more than skin deep. Very intelligent designers worked on that machine. The thinking on the design of the MT09 is very clever too, especially from a production point of view.

I test rode the Z1000SX last year and I honestly couldn't see much of an improvement on the 11 year old Gen 1 which is another reason why I reckon your bike's worth it. It's basically 'as new'. A rare thing.

Lovely bike, very rare to come across one like that but if you want to realise a big profit on it because of its outstanding condition, I think you need to be willing to put it away for another 4 - 5 years.

Also, resist the temptation to change anything from absolutely bog stock condition.  The wheels look nice but you've done something non-standard which will ultimately detract from the potential value.

In time, the Gen 1 Fazer will be regarded as a modern-day classic and since so many are modified (guilty as charged :)) ) the key to future value lies in keeping it 100% original.

Sound advice Mike.

The wheels can be easily enough converted back to standard although they do look great in the matt bronze finish.

I was going to fit a fender extender but I will refrain from doing this now and include it in the sale.  I'll let the new owner decide on the issue of potentially drilling the front fender although adhesive is always an option.

The Skidmarx bodywork is a doddle to fit and remove and will leave no trace.   It clamps onto the lower frame rails and I intend to properly tape up the area where it attaches to the tubes for fear that if not protected it might mark, however slightly, that area.

Other than that she is bog standard save heated grips.

Would look well hanging above someone's mantlepiece next to a 916 Senna :)

What i don't understand you say you looked for several years to find a gen1 ! What for a stop gap ! You purchased in sept 13 only as a stop gap because you pre-ordered a HD and 2 months later your selling the gen1, I'm sorry but it all sounds like your trying to cash in on making a few quid.

I thinks your about 1k overpriced. Nice bike tho maybe the fairing/painting costs would have been better spent elsewhere and seen as a worthy upgrade to a potential buyer.

Ok I admit it, it's a conspiracy, up there with WMD in Iraq. The bike doesn't exist, it's not in my garage, if it did exist then you shouldn't buy it, something doesn't add up. :rollin
